Description: This WMA abuts the Hells Canyon area and has steep mountainous terrain, rolling hills, shrub-covered draws, and about 30 miles of perennial streams. Elevation ranges from 2,000 ft at Brownlee Reservoir to 5,000 ft on Cuddy Mountain. Lower elevations support native fescue, bunchgrass, and sagebrush communities. Douglas-fir and ponderosa pine are found at the highest elevations adjacent to the Payette National Forest. Riparian areas support cottonwood and shrubs, including hackberry, wild cherry, hawthorn, rose and alder. Upland gamebirds found on the WMA include Chukar, Blue Grouse, California Quail, Ring-necked Pheasant, Gray Partridge, Ruffed Grouse, and Wild Turkey. A diverse community of songbirds includes Western Meadowlark, Lazuli Bunting, and hummingbirds. Highlights include Chukar, goldeneye, Common Poorwill, Western Kingbird, Cassin’s Vireo, and Rock Wren.
