Directions: The White Pine Scenic Byway starts in Potlatch and goes E on ID 6 and N on ID 3 to I-90 near Coeur d’Alene. To visit the campground, turn E off US 95 at Potlatch junction (16 mi N of Moscow) to Princeton; continue 13 mi E on ID 6 to Giant White Pine Campground.

Description: Panoramic views of farmland, extensive forests, rivers, mountains, and the largest stand of White Pine trees in N America can be seen along the White Pine Scenic Byway. Birds near the campground include Ruffed Grouse, Wild Turkey, Red-naped Sapsucker, Pileated and Black-backed Woodpeckers (uncommon, but resident year-round), Barred, Northern Pygmy-Owls (fall-winter), and Red-tailed and Cooper’s Hawks. Various resident and breeding conifer-dependent songbirds include Olive-sided, Hammond’s and Dusky Flycatchers, Gray Jay, Chestnut-backed and Mountain Chickadees, Brown Creeper, Swainson’s and Varied Thrushes, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Cassin’s Vireo, Yellow, Orange-crowned, Townsend’s, and Yellow-rumped Warblers, Western Tanager, Fox and Song Sparrows, Pine Siskin, Evening and Pine Grosbeaks (possible in winter), and Red Crossbill.
