Description: This large forested state park lies along the south shore of Lake Chatcolet. Here, the St. Joe River meanders between two lakes toward Coeur d’Alene Lake. Extensive marshes and riparian-lined shallow lakes provide important stop-over and nesting habitat for waterfowl, Great Blue Heron, and Osprey. Plummer Creek Marsh provides great viewing opportunities of the wetlands. Over 50 pairs of Osprey nest within the park and the park hosts a Great Blue Heron rookery. The park is also well known for its abundant songbird species. Six trails, totaling 20 miles, are best hiked to view songbirds and lead you under 400-year-old Ponderosa Pine trees. Highlights include Eurasian Wigeon and Northern Waterthrush.
