Directions: I-90 Exit #34 (~20 mi E of Coeur d’Alene), S on ID 3 to mp 112.4; R (W) onto Killarney Lk Rd (CR 219) for ~3.5 mi to picnic area; return to ID 3 and continue S to Black Lk Rd (mp 111.1); Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes access crosses Lane Marsh here. Backtrack to ID 3; S for 4.6 mi to Rainy Hills Rd (mp 106.7); R (W) on Rainy Hills Rd which leads to Medimont Rd; R (N) to trailhead.
Description: This 13-mile stretch of the Coeur d’Alene River is bordered by numerous shallow lakes and marshy wetlands - an excellent area for canoeing. Near the entrance road to Killarney Lake, look for Lewis’s and Pileated Woodpeckers along the meadow/forest edge north of the road. At the lake, you may see Cordilleran Flycatcher, Eastern Kingbird, Gray Catbird, Townsend’s and MacGillivray’s Warblers, and Western Tanager. At Lane Marsh, American Bittern, Sora, and Common
Yellowthroat may be seen or heard. Watch for Bald Eagle. At the intersection of Rainy Hills Rd and Medimont Rd, look for
Bonaparte’s Gull, Tundra Swan, and Western Grebe.
