Description: Mountain Bluebird, Savannah and Vesper Sparrows, Yellow Warbler, Cliff Swallow, American Kestrel, Red-tailed Hawk, and Ruffed and Blue Grouse breed in the area. Bald Eagle and Trumpeter Swan are frequently seen in early spring and late fall. Waterfowl including Mallard, Gadwall, Northern Pintail, American Wigeon, Canada Goose, and teal nest on the WMA. Courtship displays of several pairs of Sandhill Crane can be seen in the spring, along with shorebirds such as Wilson’s Snipe, Willet, Long-billed Curlew, Spotted Sandpiper, Sora, and Killdeer. Forest areas provide habitat for Great Gray Owl and Blue and Ruffed Grouse. Yellow, Yellow-rumped, and MacGillivray’s Warblers, Vesper, Chipping, and Savannah Sparrows, American Goldfinch, Lazuli Bunting, Western Kingbird, Evening Grosbeak, Green-tailed Towhee,
Steller’s Jay, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, and Willow Flycatcher can be seen. Bald and Golden Eagles, Swainson’s, Red-tailed, and Rough-legged Hawks, and Northern Harrier also frequent the area.
