Hawkins Reservoir

Site Size: 15 acres

Highlights: Raptors, Shorebirds, Songbirds, Upland Birds, Waterbirds, Waterfowl

Access: May dry up in late summer/early fall. Access free of charge.

Site Location

Directions: I-15 Exit #36; 8.8 mi W on Virginia Rd (Hawkins Rd); L into reservoir parking lot. A foot trail crosses the dam and continues around the reservoir in the sagebrush habitat.

Description: The reservoir is surrounded by juniper hills and agricultural fields. Common Loon and dabbling ducks can be seen during spring migration. Look for Juniper Titmouse and Pinyon Jay breeding in juniper habitat surrounding the campground. Shorebirds use the reservoir during migration (fall is better than spring) with numbers peaking in July-Sept. Sharp-tailed Grouse present.
